Pitru Paksha 2026: Honoring Your Lineage in the Himalayas
The window to honor your departed ancestors is open for just 15 sacred days, running from September 26 to October 10, 2026.
Do not miss this vital opportunity to perform the essential Sharad rites in the ultimate sanctity of Uttarakhand. By performing an authentic Vedic Havan near Devprayag, you ensure peace for your lineage and receive their vital blessings.

Understanding Pitru Paksha
This is a sacred 15-day period (approx. September–October) that begins on the Full Moon (Purnima) and ends on the New Moon (Amavasya). It is dedicated solely to honoring and serving our ancestors.
The Spiritual Window
This observance takes place during the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the lunar calendar, a time specifically designated for ancestral rites. Even more profoundly, it falls within Dakshinayan—the "Night of the Gods." This divine alignment creates a powerful, temporary spiritual gateway, making it the most effective time to perform the essential Sharad rituals to ensure the peace and ultimate liberation of your loved ones' souls.
The Debt of Gratitude (The Story of Karna): The Mahabharata illustrates the vital importance of this duty. Even the famously generous Karna was denied sustenance in the afterlife because he had not offered food or rites to his forefathers. The Gods allowed him to return to Earth for 15 days to perform the necessary Sharad rituals and make amends.
The Ritual Duty (Sharad)
Sanātana Dharma emphasizes Sharad, the tradition of respectful remembrance. During Pitru Paksha, we show gratitude by offering nourishment to the departed souls, which includes a precise ritual service:
Offering to the Sacred Fire (Havan): The first meal is given to the sacred Fire (Agni), which acts as the divine intermediary to carry the offering to the ancestral realm.
Sharing with the Crow: The second meal is offered to a crow, which is revered as a spiritual conduit to the ancestors.
Why Fire?
Fire is revered as the only element that naturally flows upward. It is the mouth of the Gods and the divine messenger.
Offering the first meal to the Fire God, Agni, ensures the offering is purified and delivered directly to the ancestors, as advised by Lord Brahma himself.

Why Crow?
The crow is closely associated with Yama, the God of Death and the afterlife, who guides souls to their next destination.
Feeding the crow acts as an essential final conduit, symbolizing the nourishment and respect being accepted by the departed souls (Pitrs).

Performing Rites in the Holiest Place on Earth
Choosing the location for ancestral rites is as important as the ritual itself. Our immersive Vedic Havan is performed near Devprayag—a site whose sanctity for ancestral peace is unparalleled.
The Epicenter of Ancestral Purity
The Ganga's Genesis: Devprayag, a historic town in Uttarakhand, is the revered confluence where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers merge to officially form the holy River Ganga.
Bhagirath's Quest: This location is directly linked to the Puranic story of Bhagirath, whose monumental quest to bring the Ganga from heaven was specifically to purify the ashes and grant liberation to his ancestors (King Sagara's descendants). Performing Sharad here taps into the original purpose of Ganga's descent.

The Ultimate Purpose: Liberation from the Cycle
The Vedic rituals we perform are not just acts of remembrance; they are profound acts of love and spiritual responsibility, aiming to liberate our ancestors' souls from the cycle of death and rebirth.
The Role of Ritual in Liberation
Releasing Attachments: When a loved one passes with unresolved desires or emotional ties, their soul can remain bound to the earthly realm. The Shraddha rites serve as a bridge to gently release these energetic ties and guide the soul forward.
The Fire's Power of Transmutation: Fire (Agni) is a powerful, upward-moving force in the physical and spiritual realms.
Purification: The Fire Ceremony (Homa/Havan) dissolves lower energies and attachments that bind the soul to the past.
Healing: This act transforms lingering grief and longing into peace, clarity, and spiritual closure for both the living and the departed.
A Sacred Responsibility: When performed with sincere intention and powerful Sanskrit mantras, these rituals become potent instruments. They heal the past, restore spiritual balance in your life, and ensure the soul's peaceful transition.
Connection Beyond the Veil
Feeding the Crow symbolizes the final acceptance of the offering by the ancestor. This simple, profound gesture affirms a deep spiritual truth: Your love and pure intention connect you across realms, fulfilling your highest duty to your lineage.
